PhiChain stands at the convergence of two strategies:
venture capital and hedge fund investing. We do this by taking a two-pronged approach: providing early-stage crypto venture capital for some of the most promising blockchain projects, while also employing quantitative hedge fund strategies in liquid crypto markets. This is in line with a trend we’ve seen recently, with many of the top digital asset firms now managing both venture and liquid strategies in-house. Across both strategies we believe being present and influential in both private and public markets is a critical advantage; we’re not just looking to identify Web3 projects with the potential to be category defining, we’re also executing trades with rigorous data science across all crypto markets in real time. The result is a nimble investment approach that can stay true to a long-term vision for Web3 while also being responsive and dynamic with portfolio management for our institutional partners.

Our exclusive focus on digital assets means that our attention and expertise are fully dedicated to one of the most rapidly changing asset classes in history. This is not a diversification play into traditional asset classes; it is an undiluted crypto offering for our limited partners, who will have access to the crypto markets through one, well-resourced platform. We believe this 100% crypto approach is validated by the success of firms like Pantera Capital that first decided to focus solely on blockchain technology and digital assets.
Builder & Allocator in Web3
Investing is only one facet of the work we do at PhiChain; in addition to backing entrepreneurs, we also actively build within the Web3 ecosystem. Many of our portfolio companies were originally incubated by our team and are actively built in-house, allowing us to deploy our technical skills directly to create value. For instance, we bootstraped Axion Exchange, a next-generation digital asset marketplace. Other crypto-native investors similarly engage in activities such as “build[ing] alongside their founders” to bootstrap essential crypto infrastructure, run nodes and networks, and directly contribute code to the projects they invest in. As both builders and allocators, we’re able to not only discover new opportunities but also help guide the projects we’re passionate about.
Spot Only Trading
Phichain’s hedge fund will trade exclusively in spot crypto markets using quantitative strategies, without the additional risk of leverage or complex derivatives. Our team of traders will use algorithms and research to extract alpha from market inefficiencies, arbitrage opportunities and trends following a number of top digital currencies. We only trade actual cryptocurrencies (BTC, ETH, etc.) on exchanges that we trust, giving our hedge fund activities high liquidity and transparency of institutional best practices in risk management and custody for digital asset funds.
